Free Halloween Music
Apparently nobody gives a shit about protecting the rights of Halloween music, cuz there’s a shitload of it for free on the internet. Here’s a few good resources and mixes I found.
Fever Ray - Resident Advisor Halloween PodcastFor those of you that don’t know, Fever Ray is a hipster favorite this year that has a pretty cool dark vibe themselves. They put out this solid mix of dark haunted sounding music. This is the soundtrack for the first hour of your indie snob party. Also, Resident Advisor is a great site for a variety of DJs & Mixes, mostly techno & house stuff. Gorilla vs. Bear put out a similar dark creeper mix.
These Are the Breaks Halloween MixFrom my favorite Canadian hiphop website, BeatStreet, comes this 2 hour mix by Avi Shack of deep old school Halloween themed hip-hop tracks. Though this mix has a lot of favorites, looks like Avi was really going for quantity on this mix as you will find that old school Halloween themed hip-hop tracks is not always the best idea. This is the soundtrack for the last 2 hours of your post DJ lonely dance floor.
A Spooky, Rocking, Surfing, Halloween ExtravaganzaHere’s the fuckload from a true Halloween digger… that probably requires a significant amount of digging time for you as well to weed out some shit. 3 Volumes of a mostly rocking (some 93x, some hillbilly, some surfy) Halloween themed tunes and some spooky haunted house type stuff.
And if you are looking for the standards, Halloween Theme, Time Warp, Monster Mash, etc., I’ve found various shitty mixes with a variety of them for free, but iTunes has done a pretty good job of putting together an Essential Halloween Songs List.

The Weekly Versus | The World Series of Game Show Charm

This is a certain sign of social slacking that all we post are these damn weekly versus anymore… but so you know… there is an end to this madness. Eventually, and for no real reason, we hope to be able to find similarities in peoples tastes. The last two weeks were a total waste and Chris has been thoroughly verbally abused for making them up. (I should be abused for posting them).

This week’s a good one… a triple versus that will define you as a person…

Trebek, Sajak, or Barker?

Weekly Versus | The 80s Untouchables
This one is abstract, but we were trying to figure out who could beat U2 and we couldn’t really think of anybody. Then we were thinking about who could beat Saved by the Bell and we couldn’t think of anybody… so we put them up against each other.
U2 or Saved by the Bell?

Weekly Versus | Battle of the Mobys
I asked Chris for something smart and relevant for this week’s Versus… something that people care about enough to take time and vote and this is what I get. I think he’s just mad that I told him I thought he was ASI’s Mad Men equivalent to Paul Kinzie.

regardless, here we go… Moby or Moby Dick?

Weekly Versus | Sexy Old Ladies of the 80s
Mona or Blanche?

Mona or Blanche?

Here we go again… Chris has gone and brought up another musical versus conversation that in my mind is not subjective… but… so far the company is surprisingly split.
So… The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?

We’re having a really stupid argument at work today this week. Chris seems to think Whitney Houston is better than Janet Jackson. I (Jt) am appalled by this statement.
Please take a second and help us out by voicing your opinion of who is better… in general… Whitney Houston or Janet Jackson?
UPDATE: Chris and his record store are all pro whitney on the facebook… all of them…
UPDATE: Tumblr must be too cool for this heated debate cuz we are getting some passionate responses on some other networks. Jt post this on the facebook and got a strong 12-5 sway towards Janet, and some of those Whitney votes were for her unforgettable appearances on “Being Bobby Brown”.
